Immunity, inflammation and Nutrition CAN Summit 2024

Immunonutrition-Companion Animal Perspectives

Speakers:

Ebenezer Satyaraj, PhD

Event date: 10 April 2024

Nutrition and immunity are intricately linked, with both being essential for survival and having co-developed organ systems and signaling pathways. The largest immune organ in the body, the gut houses more than 65% of all immune cells and over 90% of immunoglobulin-producing cells.

As a result, the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) offers a unique opportunity to modulate the immune system via diet. Not only is the immune system is exposed to everything that passes through the gastrointestinal tract, but anything ingested may affect the immune system.

In this lecture, Dr. Ebenezer Satyaraj shares insights into the immunity of neonates and aged companion animals, the impact of stress and nutrition on the immune system, and nutritional interventions that promote immune system resilience.
